Job hunt starts now. But yet again, the enigma of "experience" pops its ugly rear-end up. I've applied for a few jobs, all citing that I basically don't have enough "experience". Sure, I don't have 'in-studio experience', but does my BEng (Hons) degree in Computer Games Design, my 8 years games modding and community contributions on projects that have been published in magazines, have won numerous awards and honourable mentions, and my work-for-hire jobs on published titles mean nothing?! It's crazy. Some guy who's had 12 months experience working for an indie developer straight out of school with no other experience of games designstands a better chance by those benchmarks.
How am I meant to get experience if every job requires it?!
Okay, so at least it gives me chance to strengthen and get my portfolio house in order. I'm starting a website next week, hopefully get it done within the week and finish some other 3D stuff off. But in the mean-time I need an income to pay the car, the bills and life's other necessities - you know, a job. But not even local places, shops, supermarkets - no-one is hiring anyone to do anything!
Its kinda demoralising, but I shall not be beaten! I'll get my portfolio properly finished, some nice pieces from all over the shop, make those who turned me down regret it
Anyone got any work that needs doing?!
Matt out
